Helping the myththat happiness is the  objective of life.

If you have read a few of my other blogpieces you will certainly see that I regularly say that thereis a state beyond happiness that can be the very best goal inlife. Meanwhile traditional science hasyet to catch up to this reality. One current trendin psychology is to look at the quantity of joy individuals experience. I came acrossthe most recommended test and chose to take it.

I advise that you take the test also to see where it puts youin their scale of joy.

This how the test exists in the BBC News story:

"Psychologists say it is possible to determine your joy.

This test developed by psychologist Teacher Ed Diener fromthe University of Illinois, takes just a minute to finish.

To find out how pleased you are simply take a look at the 5 statements below and decide whether youagree or disagree using a 1-7 scale.

Please be open and honest in your responding - remember youranswers are totally personal.

As soon as you have actually addressed allfive questions press send and we will certainly determine your score. You will certainly then be able to read Professor Diener's analysis." Source BBC

The connect to the test is here

When I got my results back I discovered that I was Extremely Pleased:

Individuals who score in this variety love their lives andfeel that things are going extremely well. Your life is not best, but you feel it has to do with as good as lifegets. In addition, simply because you are satisfied does not imply you arecomplacent. In fact, growth and challengemight be part of the reason you are pleased. For the majority of people in this high-scoring range, life is satisfying, and the major domains of life are workingout - work or school, family, pals, leisure, andpersonal development.

The issue that I see with this test is that they suggest for me toscore this high my life must be working out, work, family and friends. In fact my happiness does not depend on any of those factors. My life is happy because my internal area is happy. I have been happy even when I had no work or money or buddies!

Regrettably tests and information such as this assessment support and promote the misconception that happiness depends on the external world of great, tasks, family and friends. In fact ourlife difficulty is to rise up and move beyond this dependence to the location where we are joyful, delighted and blissful for no reason, and continue withthat energy when others discover reason to be sad!
